Marketization is the Only Criterion for Testing Technology

Character background:

Christopher is a master tutor of Tsinghua University Shenzhen Graduate School, a high-level talent in Shenzhen, a leading talent in Nanshan District, the CEO of Shenzhen Camsense Technology Co., Ltd., a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree at Tsinghua University, and the tutelage of Professor Dai Qionghai, chief scientist of 973 and Changjiang Scholar. With more than ten years of experience in product development and technology management in the IT and human-computer interaction technology industries, he has conducted very in-depth research on computer vision and positioning technology. As the main inventor, he has more than 20 international and national patents, and has successively obtained Shandong Province. Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress and Shenzhen Science and Technology Patent Award. At the beginning of 2014, Camsense was founded and served as CEO, leading the company to dedicate to the research and industrialization of computer vision spatial positioning and position tracking technology. At present, the products have been widely used in robotics, industry, medical and other fields.

Artificial intelligence has entered its second peak

"The future prospects of artificial intelligence are beyond doubt." Christopher took the lead in setting the tone for the future of the industry when answering the development prospects of artificial intelligence. In his view, the "bubble" encountered in the industry is not a bad thing, but a kind of law and self-healing. "This is something that a technology will inevitably experience in the process of development. Historically, the development of any technology will go through a curve. It will rise, and then it will be widely sought after, sought after by capital and sought after by the corporate world, and also The popularity of academic institutions quickly forms a peak, and the result may be that, for example, the technology is not so mature, and the commercial landing is not so easy, and then it starts to go down.”

For the current stage of the artificial intelligence industry, Christopher believes that it is in the second peak development period. In March 2016, AlphaGo competed with the world champion and professional nine-dan player Lee Sedol in the human-machine Go battle and won the game with a total score of 4 to 1. This news event that has caused a heated global debate, Christopher regards it as a landmark event in the second peak of artificial intelligence. "Go is considered to be a field that reflects the complexity of human thinking. Intelligence has defeated human beings in this field. At that time, it was thought that its technology had developed to a certain height and degree, so capital began to flood in, the media began to report widely, and then A large number of companies have invested in it, and many are not engaged in artificial intelligence. They also started to turn in this direction, and then they all wanted to put a label on themselves. This is actually the second peak.” Although it is judged that the industry is still at its peak, Christopher is not Blindly optimistic, he believes that there will still be a process of whereabouts.

In addition, Christopher believes that the industry's downturn is also a good trend for the industry, which is also the industry's self-screening. "This is a process of market-based selection. Too much intervention is not good. For example, some artificial intelligence companies can't find the direction of their own landing, and then through external interference factors, such as It's not healthy to say that it gets a lot of government funding and so on to keep it going like this."

Artificial intelligence is to liberate labor, not eliminate labor

Artificial intelligence is widely used in many fields, which brings convenience to people, but also raises another concern. Christopher rejects this view as to whether artificial intelligence will completely replace human labor and bring about a "wave of layoffs."

"In my opinion, there is no need to worry, because you can recall several technological revolutions in human history, which actually helped human beings move from a lower-level working method to a higher-level mode. So I don't think about the artificial intelligence revolution. Think it will eliminate human labor. Historically, no technological revolution has caused humans to do nothing.”

Christopher said that from a certain point of view, technological reform has promoted the progress of human labor, improved work efficiency, and improved human labor efficiency.

"For example, robots vacuum is to help humans do cleaning work. The job is very simple and the task is very simple, that is, cleaning the home environment. This actually helps people reduce the workload of cleaning. Another example is surveillance cameras, in addition to anti-theft, the second is Regulation. Our country now has probably one of the largest surveillance networks in the world, and in a sense, it’s definitely making people feel safer in this city.”

In Christopher's view, the impact of artificial intelligence is multi-faceted, from personal family life to cities. Although people have always thought that artificial intelligence seems to be a very distant industry topic, in fact, looking back, artificial intelligence has penetrated deep into our lives and has affected everyone's lives unknowingly.

Technology and commercialization are the development trend

Regarding the bottleneck faced by the development of the artificial intelligence industry, Christopher believes that in addition to being unable to completely replace human creativity and imagination, the biggest problem with industry technology is how to achieve commercialization. In his view, marketization is the only criterion for testing technology. "From the point of view of commercial landing, in fact, many people are artificial now, but not intelligence but mental retardation. It can be reflected from the time of product landing, but this kind of product fails to meet people's expectations."

From technology to product, the process of landing in the middle is not easy. "When it is made into a product, there is actually a big gap from the actual actual use demand." Christopher explained, "When a product is commercialized, it can be sold, generate sales, and then let the sales continue to roll. , is actually a very difficult thing. It can be said that most of the so-called artificial intelligence companies are currently trying, and most companies may fail in this regard.”

Christopher said that theoretical success and sales success are two different things. It is necessary to turn a theory into a product that can be replicated and manufactured in large quantities, and then sell it to underwrite the income, and the profit can make blood by itself. This is another problem compared to the theoretical success. .

How to test whether a technology or product is good? Christopher believes that the market is the only criterion for inspection, and the product technology must eventually serve the market. Just relying on storytelling to gain industry recognition is not as real as sales. In this regard, Camsense has its own unique advantages and technical support.

Enterprise development is inseparable from technological precipitation

Christopher said that in such a competitive industry, companies must have their own advantages to survive: brand advantage, network advantage and scale advantage. The brand advantage comes from the recognition of consumers, the network advantage is user support, and the scale advantage is to gain market share and market share and have its own right to speak in the industry.

In addition, there is another very important advantage, that is, technical precipitation. "If your industry has not settled for a long time and the team has been polished for a long time, it will be difficult for you to make products. Our team has been doing this for more than ten years, including myself, in the field of computer vision. Time, I did it when I was a graduate student in the university. We have accumulated a lot from this field. We also have full confidence and accumulation. We have done algorithms and we have done chips, so we have been established for many years, and we have accumulated A lot of patented technologies have been developed, and the entire bug is broken here, and this technology is available.”

"The accumulation of our company's core team in the field of computer vision spatial positioning technology has enabled us to have a relatively large lead compared to the industry. This is the first point." Christopher said, "The second point, Based on our technology, we have strong business logic capabilities. We can integrate upstream and downstream resources in the industry to form product barriers, that is, the ability to implement productization. The third is our commercial operation ability. We As a company, it attaches great importance to commercialization. When you have completed the first two, the third step is to sell it, which is the business closed loop of a technology company.”

It is understood that Camsense was established in 2014 and is committed to becoming a world-leading computer vision spatial positioning technology company. It has core algorithms with completely independent intellectual property rights, focuses on the research and development of high-precision positioning vision sensors, and provides core technical support for various artificial intelligence applications. The products are widely used in industrial, medical, and robotics industries.

At present, 19 invention patents have been applied for, 3 of which have been authorized, and won the Shenzhen Patent Award; established a high-precision positioning joint laboratory with Tsinghua University, and jointly undertaken a number of major scientific research projects in Guangdong Province and Shenzhen; selected by Tencent AI in 2017 The accelerator was the first batch of enterprises to settle in, and was rated as the "2018 Most Influential Enterprise"; it was awarded the "2018 Shenzhen Rising Star" award for high-tech high-tech growth by Deloitte. Service customers include COMAC, China Test Group, 360 Group, Skyworth, iQiyi and other large enterprises.

At the end of the interview, Christopher also put forward some of his own views on entrepreneurs who are interested in entering this industry. "The field of artificial intelligence belongs to technological innovation. It is still different from the commercial innovation that started many years ago in China. Therefore, the requirements for the academic height and educational background of the entrepreneurial team are quite high. The second point is to pay special attention to the landing of entrepreneurship. , Especially when students come out to start a business, they lack social experience and business environment, and they are easy to go astray. To start a business, you must have business operation ability, in fact, business and technology must be combined. If the technology is strong, but the commercial operation ability is not strong. , it can only be a technology company, make a technology, and then wait for the giant to acquire it.”
